If you want to study at HOTEL SCHOOL Hotel Management College, but your English skills are not sufficient, join our English Foundation Year! Enhance your language proficiency, advance academic skills like analysis, assignment writing and presentation and learn more about European history and culture in just two semesters. English Foundation Year is a great opportunity to learn more about Latvia and Europe, as various excursions, Hospitality workshops and even a Summer English Language School in another EU country are included!

Upon successful completion of the course, you will take an internationally approved English language proficiency test. If you achieve the minimum required score equivalent to IELTS 5.5 or B2 level in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, you will be enrolled at the 1st level professional higher education study programme “Hospitality Service Organization” and continue your studies.


Units of the programme

The programme consists of two parts – the formal part and the informal part. The formal part takes 230 contact hours to complete:

  • Academic English for International Students
The informal part takes 120 contact hours to complete:
  • Academic Writing
  • Latvian Language, the Beginner Level
  • Introduction to European History and Culture
  • Basics of Computer Literacy (if applicable)

In addition to the theoretical courses, you can count on various excursions in Riga, workshops with leaders of Hospitality Industry and a Summer Language School in another EU country!


Programme delivery 

The English Foundation Year starts four times a year in SeptemberNovemberFebruary and March. The programme takes place face-to-face in Riga, Latvia, on the premises of HOTEL SCHOOL Hotel Management College.


Tuition fees

The tuition fee for the English Foundation Year is EUR 5,000 for both EU citizens and for non-EU citizens. The EU citizens may also pay by month. Please note that in case you are a non-EU citizen, a EUR 500 Admission Fee will be be charged for the preparation of the documents needed for admission and getting a visa. In order to take an internationally approved English language test, an additional fee will be charged for registering for the exam. The precise cost of the test will be specified in the Study Contract.

To apply, a prospective learner must have completed general secondary education.


Further studies for the graduates of the course

After completing the course and taking the English language proficiency test, the learners that have received the minimum required score equivalent to IELTS 5.5 or B2 level in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages start their studies at HOTEL SCHOOL, joining the programme “Hospitality Service Organization”.
