From Volyn with Flavour: Ukrainian Nalysnyky and Honey Cake Masterclass
Every nation has its own culinary masterpieces, and many chefs discover astonishing flavour combinations by exploring the cuisines of other countries. At HOTEL SCHOOL Hotel Management College, we are passionate about broadening our students’ culinary horizons by inviting international chefs to lead inspiring masterclasses.
Last month, our students enjoyed a wonderful culinary experience with Ms. Yuliia Sydoruk, Master of Industrial Training and lecturer at Volyn Professional College NUFT. During the session, Ms. Sydoruk introduced students to two beloved Ukrainian dishes: traditional nalysnyky and a delicate Honey Cake roll.
Nalysnyky are thin, tender crepes typically filled with sweet cottage cheese or other fillings and lightly baked or pan-fried. They are a cherished comfort food in Ukraine and are especially popular in the Volyn region, where dairy products and simple, home-style cooking play an important role in local cuisine.
The Honey Cake roll, inspired by the famous Ukrainian medovyk, highlights the region’s long tradition of beekeeping. Honey has been a staple ingredient in Volyn for centuries, giving desserts their characteristic warmth, aroma, and natural sweetness.
Through this masterclass, students not only learned new culinary techniques but also discovered the cultural stories behind these dishes and the traditions of the Volyn region.
We sincerely thank Ms. Sydoruk for such a tasty and inspiring training experience!
