“Hospitality Service Organization” is the short-cycle professional higher education study programme, by the completion of which the 5th level Latvian professional qualification “Hotel Services Organizer” is being awarded.

The hotel services organizer is a specialist, who participates in the management of the hospitality enterprise, plans and coordinates the activities of the hotel departments, manages the staff, promotes the sale of products and services and controls the execution of the budget.

The programme was developed by HOTEL SCHOOL lecturers in collaboration with hospitality industry experts and employers. The programme is accredited until December 31, 2024. The content of the programme is being updated every year.

Study process and internship
 

Acquisition of the programme will take 2.3 years or 5 semesters, during which 135 credit points must be collected. Studies include lectures, seminars and practical classes (for example, learning hotel management computer programs, culinary master classes, etc.), as well as internships in hotels. Field trips to various hospitality companies and guest lectures by industry professionals are also organized. At the end of the second semester, a one-month internship is planned, which takes place in the leading hotel brands of Latvia (usually in the center of Riga) – Kempinski, Radisson Blu, Park Inn, etc. In the second year of study, students receive a monthly stipend (lodging and boarding expenses are covered by the employer). The study programme “Hospitality Service Organization” is accredited until 31.12.2024.

After graduating the programme, a state recognized diploma of a short-cycle professional higher education is awarded.


Career and progression opportunities for graduates of the programme
 

According to the HOTEL SCHOOL graduate survey conducted in 2023, 100% of HOTEL SCHOOL graduates are employed and work in the hospitality or hospitality-related industry. 55.6% of respondents started working during their studies, and 33.3% within a year after graduation. All graduates surveyed felt prepared for the labour market (77.8% felt very prepared, 22.8% felt rather prepared). Finally, 89% of graduates agree that the knowledge, skills, and competencies acquired at the College meet the requirements of the labour market.

Graduates of the program can continue their education in other Latvian higher education institutions by entering higher level education programmes immediately in the 2nd or even 3rd year of study . HOTEL SCHOOL has signed cooperation agreements with other Latvian higher education institutions, which provide bachelor level professional higher education study programmes in the management of tourism and hospitality. Within the framework of cooperation, HOTEL SCHOOL graduates are admitted in later stages of studies, as well as can apply for a special discount on tuition fees.


Admission requirements
 

Admission to study programme is being organised on the competition basis after obtaining general secondary education. The selection criteria of the competition are the results of all passed compulsory centralised state examinations on the acquisition of general secondary education. When applying to study in English, the result of the centralised state English language examination must be at least level B2 in accordance with the language proficiency levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Admission of foreigners takes place with an additional admission examination – an interview, the aim of which is to find out the applicant’s motivation for studies.
